At Walmart they have some very inexpensive system for
abt $100.

Any of them worthwhile?

Question... how do you like New Reader.com for its web
access of newsgroups?

Ok but how are you accessing it...via the web or via
Usenet?

I'm interested in how fast the web access is as there
are some computers at college where I can not install
any Usenet news reading software and still want access
to my groups..... but need FAST access via web.

I like it a lot. The postings are almost always complete.
The owner is very accessible and tries to make things right.

I think you would be better off looking at used systems.

I use the web access through my Cox cable account.

Gross.
I just checked out newsreader.com's free demo web interface.
Painfully slow.
Extremely kludge interface.
No spam filters. [there's literally thousands of hipcrime messages any
decent NNTP host would filter, let alone all the porn spam]

Give easynews.com a shot. I think they still offer a free [or cheap] trial.
Very fast, very complete, 3 or 4 different interfaces to choose from.
Incredible global search engines, thumbnailing, auto-unrar, zip manager,
great tech support, etc.
Unused gigs roll over to the next month. I have over 450Gigs in my bank
and I've used the hell out of the account for 4 years.

Just my 2c.
