Denon 3806 and PS3

Got my son a PS3 for Christmas. We hooked it up via HDMI to our Denon 3806
AVR. The AVR output is HDMI to our wall mounted Samsung LN-S4095D LCD TV.
We went through the PS3 on-line update via the internet and when we set
visual setting for all resolutions, up to and including 1080P, we get short
beeps and snaps and the screen is so snowy it can't be used. After all, I
paid big money for HD and I want to be able to use it to the max. What can
the problem be?

My cable run is 50 feet, i.e., from the back of the AVR through the floor
over to and up through the wall then in back of some cabinets to the flat
screen. If this is the case, can one install an in-line amp to boost any
signal loss to overcome this?

i can only tell you that i have a similar setup: 3806 with pio 5060.
the pio only accepts 1080i, so there is that difference. this may be
a problem with the HDMI cabling? i have heard similar similar tales
of woe from people who have long runs of less-than-stellar HDMI
cable. mine plays flawlessly, both for games and blu-ray.

An update on my 1080P HDMI problem; by turning off the PS3 and the TV I was
able to get the TV and the PS3 to "handshake" again when I turned the TV on
but only after turning the PS3 back on. The BD movie is visible, but it is
still grainy/snowy and the screen has flickers that will give one a
headache. I'm wondering if the 50' of HDMI cable from the AVR to the TV
might be a problem. Any ideas?

might be. as a test, you should take the AVR out of the equation. hook
the PS3 to the 50' cable, check the results. if it looks awful, then
take the PS3 into the room with the tv, hook it to your (i'm assuming)
shorter cable that runs from the PS3 to the AVR, directly to the tv.
if it looks good, the 50' run is your problem.

if the 50' cable with the PS3 directly hooked to the tv looks good, then
the AVR is to blame.

UNLESS it's a problem with the short cable. but when you hook the short
cable to the tv, you should eliminate that possibility.

My problem is now solved. I purchased a HDMI Extender from L-com.com
http://www.l-com.com/item.aspx?id=9295. For $69.00 this little in-line
device solved all my HDMI problems. It doesn't even need external power and
it is advertised to work on runs up to 150 feet.

For anybody that is having the same problem, get an extender. Thanks to all
that had suggestions.
