I'm looking to add a good pair of speakers to my PC primarily for
watching movies / dvd's. Music is my secondary concern and I've
narrowed it down to the logitech z-2300 and Klipsch ProMedia. Both
specs read pretty similar, however, the logitechs are a little more
powerful, and I think both are THX. I'm leaning toward the Logitech
based on price but wondering if anyone has some practical experience
with either or both? Thanks.

you shouldn't shop speakers by specs, you should listen to them.
specs mean nothing, and manufacturers always puff up the specs.
since you are talking computer speakers, circuit city, best buy,
etc...etc... you should go there and listen to them, bring a really
dynamic CD to audition the speakers.
Nothing matters more than what your own ears are telling you.
power rating is BS because almost none of these is really measured
in true RMS.
but in general, any good computer speakers have a SUB woofer (third
speaker).

I own the Klipsch and have heard the Logitech. Klipsch knows how to
design and make speakers. Logitech knows how to make mice. For the
love of God! Go with the Klipsch speakers. I've been trained in home
theater, specifically in THX for the home by the kind folks at
Skywalker Ranch http://www.hometheaterforum.com/darthsimon/ranch.html
I KNOW they would agree with me.

That makes a lot of sense. I was able to listen to about 4 or 5
different Klipsch speakers at BB and I've got to say that I wasn't
impressed. The only one that my ears liked were a pair of tall (2 or
3 feet tall) skinny floor units. All of the others (I guess you'd
call them bookshelf speakers) really didn't have the depth of sound
that I expected. I then found a pair of THX certified logitechs at CC
(actually, the digital 7.1 units) and man did they sound sweet. They
cost more than what I wanted to spend, but they got me thinking
seriously about going for the THX 2.1 set. I know a lot of people
would disagree, or argue that a lot of variables could give me such an
impression, but I'm going with the logitechs. I'll give you all an
update down the road once I pick the exact pair and test drive them at
home for a while.
