there are low profile center channel speakers
that will fit between the bottom of the screen
and the table top, while using the default TV stand.
If your TV is not very small. These speakers are lo and
long, made just for the application you speak of.
some of these lo profile speakers work just dandy
even in loud systems. (they do cost a bit)
also one might connect the surround center pre amp
out to a y cord, then to the TV audio inputs (rca) adjust
the TV volume to match the rest of your system. In
this way you are using the TV speakers for center
channel. This works OK if your room is small and
your volume is conservative. This does not usually work
with a loud system.
another idea is to use two (small maybe) bookshelf speakers
connected in parallel to the right and left of the screen. Of
course they could be as big as you please. two 8 ohm speakers
in parallel is 4 ohms to your center channel amp.
you don't want to use less than 8 ohm speakers, now don't
do that with 4 ohm speakers.
then there are speakers that install inside the wall or ceiling
if you happen to own the building. In wall speakers have been
a solution for many, and there's some good sounding ones
out there. you can put the center speaker above the TV.
well, they don't sound like Dahlquists, that's for sure.
then there is the phantom center which works just fine
(no speaker) with the better surround preamps like Lexicon.
It may not work so hot with a panasonic, however.
a lexicon does cost a bit...
you need to measure the space you have and start shopping. |

I may be reading you wrong, and if so, I apologize. The center is in
the center slot of the wooden stand. As was previously stated, with
you buy speakers to fit the slots, or you buy stands to accomodate
your speakers.
I did once, build a box to accomodate a center, and placed the TV on
it, on top of the stand.
I am also told, that there are some sort of brackets that will fit on
the top of some flat screens that will accomodate a small center
speaker.
