Single Dolby 5.1 output to Stereo Amp to DV Sub

The Dolby 5.1 box has a single dedicated SUB output and I want to send
it to a Sony amp I have which will in turn drive a passive dual voice
coil sub.

My question is, do I:

1. Run a single rca cord from the receiver to a single channel of the
amp and then on to the sub?

2. Run a Y split rca cord to both LEFT & RIGHT inputs on the amp,
providing both coils on the sub with power.

3. Run a single rca from the receiver to say the LEFT side of the amp
and hook the sub up to both the Main and Remote LEFT channels of the
Amp, one coil each. (This ignores the BOTH & RIGHT choices on the Amp
altogether.)

My intuition is leaning towards option three.

I would go with #2, which lets you drive both channel of amplification
equally without danger of drawing too much current from one side of
the amp by letting the load impedance get too low. But it sort of
depends on the amp, too.

feed the R and L inputs of the Sony amp.
the right and left speaker outs from the sony amp feed
the R and L inputs of the passive sub.
that is what you have, a stereo passive sub?
(dual voice coil)
yes it's running in mono with two separate amps
(one for each voicecoil)
this would be the best way I'm thinking.

The past few nights I have been running it with option 3; RIGHT
channel and using Main & Remote Right for one voice coil each.

Better I think to follow your combined recommendation though.

For some reason I was worried about having a common connection between
the Left & Right channels, perhaps causing one to backwash into the
other.

In any case so far I have more bass on hand than I need (which means I
can throttle back and get it where I want.)

Now, to move the dam'd thing so I'm not tempted to use it for a foot
stool. ;])

Problems with stereo SACDs Using stereo SACDs on my dvd player (Maranz dv8300) this can only generate an analog output on the left and right channels but not on the subwoofer output. This obviously produces a big cut on the low frequencies. The setup menu of the player seems unable
