Hello all:

I've had my STR-DE915 for several years now and it's treated me well.
Lately I've noticed that after having it on for a while, the top of
the receiver is extremely hot - almost too hot to actually put your
hand on it.

It sits in a stand with all my other components. It has about 4"
between the top of the receiver and the shelf directly above it. The
case has a glass door that I've been propping open just to encourage a
little more air movement but it's still way too hot.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help...

You could get a bix fan from Radio Shack and put it in the cabinet.

Do you live in an area where there are huge summertime demands on the
electricity grid? It could be that your local electricity provider is
cutting the voltage in your area (brownouts) and this could make all of
your appliances run hotter.

Sony receivers are known for running hot under normal conditions.
Low-voltage conditions could be causing the problem that you describe,
particularly when summer electrical demands are at their peak.

I'll tell you what I know, the Sony STR-D915 was the very first receiver
with 5.1 channels that I owned (I currently own a Yamaha), several years
later I too noticed that it got hot, then after that, the rears channels
just stopped working. Please be aware that the STR-D915 is prone to
having channels not working, as well as getting hot. You can look this
unit up in the http://audioreview.com web site.

Hopefully, you won't have the problems that I did, good luck!
