Any opinions on which of these would be the most satisfying TV
to start off my media room purchases? Both have HDMI 1.3, etc.
I will be adding DVD player and sound system later. Seating
will be at about 10.5 feet from the screen.

There have been several articles recently regarding HDMI 1.3. My
interpretation is that most of the new features are right now
unusable....either no hardware support, or no DVDs that utilize them.
The various HDTV technologies all have pros and cons, there is no
absolute 'best'...it comes down to what is pleasing to you and your
budget. Motion artifacts, black level, burn-in, bulb replacement,
viewing angle, and so on are some of the factors to consider. |

I can only speak for the Mits. I have the 65732,
which is last years model. I like it a lot.
The picture is excellent, very detailed.
I sit about the same distance as you will.

You will have to qualify your answer.

Just a personal opinion... I looked at a lot of various screens. Not
one had better color than a (50") Panasonic plasma which I bought for
my theater room. |

I think the Sony has slightly superior technology (3 chips vice one); but I
doubt you could appreciate the difference unless you had a pristine source
(Blue Ray or HD DVD), calibrated sets, and side-by-side comparison in a
perfect setting. Both offer incredibly detailed pictures.
These two sets were finalists in my selection process. I bought the Mitsu
WD-57732 (last year's model). I couldn't appreciate any difference is
picture and it had PiP which is often useful in my H/T setup. It was also
quite a bit less expensive.
