Hi all,
What would be the function of Cat 5 Cable in a home theater set up?
Thank you for your help!

Good for running in wall control systems and panels, that's about it.

It could be of some use if you have a PC based Home Theater. You
probable need to transfer those mp3 and mpeg files from another
location. |

As you are running audio & video cables all around the house,
it makes sense to include Cat 5, to facilitate computer networking. |

With the popularity of wireless increasing daily, I question the need for
Cat 5 at all. Murphy's law is that if you install Cat5 on one wall, you
will inevitably need it on the other wall. If you have a one story house
this isn't a bid deal, but in a two story it is.
Just my newbie opinion,
Richard

1) a network connection for an internet radio or networked mp3 player to
a PC acting as a file server.
2) missapplied in the form of overpriced mediocre speaker or signal
cables. |

It is very important, at least for me! My TiVo hooks in via CAT5 to my
home LAN. I've heard mixed reports about wireless and TiVo.

I have a pc that I made into a mp3 jukebox and it plays mp3s through my HT
system. I use cat 5 cable that connects my playstation2, and the mp3 jukebox
to the internet, both of them are connected to the HT system.
