Absolutely! They are worth every penny and then some!

You would have to spend thousands of $$$ on so-called "audiophool"
speakers to even get close to an Bose 6.1 system. And then you'd have a
room filled with ugly boxes or panels that would sound no better than
the Bose.

Expect lots of anti-Bose comments to your post: There are many here who
are extremely jealous of Bose's market success and ability to make good
products and these cretins have nothing better to do with their time
except make disparaging remarks about Bose.

Trust your ears: You made an excellent choice!

Anyone have these speakers? I'm thinking about upgrading my speaker system,
and just came back from my local Bose store and was blown away with the
quality of these speakers. Worth it?

Thanks

Bose is a great marketing company and knows what consumers like - small
looking stylish speakers. They are very inaccurate and you can get much
better sounding, more accurate speakers for quite a bit less money. I had 2
neighbors that were sure they wanted Bose and I brought them shopping (one
was ready to buy and was "just coming along for the trip"). We listened to
the Bose and also a set of Mirage AVS-500 at Tweeter, Etc. Well, both ended
up with the Mirage and saved $500+ for the set of 5.1. Some to seriously
listen to. Do some of your own listening and compare.

These are all small like Bose:

Psb Alpha Intro
Paradigm Cinema
Mirage AVS500
Energy Take 5.2
NHT Super Zero
B&W LM-1
Atlantic Technology T-70
Definitive Technology Pro Cinema
Gallo Acoustics Nuclues
Tannoy FX5.1
etc.

The above companies also make larger ones that are excellent. I prefer
bookshelves because the larger woofer/midrange creates better vocals and has
less of a hole before the sub kicks in. I have Psb in my theater and love
them. I also have a set of NHT Super 1.1 for the living room and they are
also excellent. Don't believe the hype surrounding Bose - that is the
marketing talking.

Good God, how could ANYONE be impressed with these speakers?? They are
probably some of the worst sounding speakers I've ever heard in my life.

I suggest you go and listen to some REAL speakers. You can do far better for
the money.

For the same amount you can get some speakers that will REALLY blow you away.
The Bose does not have a true subwoofer and has many missing frequencies in the
important ranges for HT.

Don't be sorry you asked. You'd be even sorrier if you had bought Bose.

As a result of your question, you have received recommendations for high
quality speakers, made by legitimate companies, which sell for a
fraction of the cost of the pathetic Bose Acoustimass:

Psb Alpha Intro
Paradigm Cinema
Mirage AVS500
Energy Take 5.2
NHT Super Zero
B&W LM-1
Atlantic Technology T-70
Definitive Technology Pro Cinema
Gallo Acoustics Nuclues
Tannoy FX5.1

You have also been directed to a website which explains in vivid detail
just how incredibly-lousy Bose speakers are:

Don't be, this isn't your fault. The Big Cheese is a Bose fanatic who'll deny
the truth at every turn to sell you on his product of choice. The bottom line
is, most of us loathe Bose, and for good reason. But *you* are the one buying
and paying for the new speakers, *you* are the one that has to use them, and
enjoy them. Demo everything, and if Bose is your choice, then take the Bose and
be happy.

Thanks for the recs, but these speaker packages seem limited to only 5.1,
and I've really set myself on a 6.1 setup (just want to take advantage of a
6.1 receiver, and let's not debate the differences between 5.1 and 6.1
systems, ugh!)

But really, the Bose 5.1 system DID sound good in the store, but as the web
site pointed out, it was probably hooked up to multiple amps, etc.

I'm looking for a SMALL 6.1 speaker package, around $1500. My friend has a
7.1 Definitive Technologies speaker system and the speakers are so big and
bulky, although sound great.

I've also looked at Aperion Audio speaker packages, and go up to 7.1. But
again, these bookshelf speakers are big in my opinion.

I guess I'll just keep looking.

I don't usually agree with Steve but listen to what he is saying: "If
Bose is your choice, then take the Bose and be happy."

Trust your ears and not what all the Bose-haters here write.

Sorry, friend, but that's not quite right. Perhaps I failed to make myself
clear in my earlier post. I never worked as a Bose employee. I owned an
installing firm in Connecticut for many years. We sold and installed
security, CCTV, intercom and whole-house music systems. For a while we sold
Bose products. When I learned more about their products and the higher
quality competing brands that were available we dropped Bose.

> How long did you work for Bose before they fired you

Not for a single second. I'm way too arrogant to work for someone else.
Besides, I make a better living running my own business. Sorry if I didn't
make myself understood in the earlier post.

> You have ZERO credibility.

Hmm. I disagree with you, friend. Does that mean we must impugne one
another's credibility?

If that's the theory, why would we not be more jealous of so many other
firms that are more successful than Bose?

> And no, I'm not married to one of Amar's daughters,

I never met the family though I have been to their facilities in
Massachussetts.

That's all well and good, but it says nothing about the quality (or lack
thereof) of his speaker products.

> And you're just another of the vast unwashed masses of

Somehow I doubt the makers of more serious audio products dream about Bose'
technical skills. I couldn't care less if he's the most successful
martketer in the galaxy or a homeless peddler pushing speakers from a
horse-draw cart. The only issues for me are audio quality and product
reliability. My experience in the field and personal exposure to Bose
products leads me to select other vendors.

If you like Bose sound, that's just fine with me. I don't like Bose for the
reasons already stated. I don't see any need to call you a stupid "phool"
for disagreeing with me on this.

> ... Bose conducts more market research annually than all
> the other audio companies combined...

Perhaps if they would spend a few of those dollars on product development
and higher quality components we'd give them more respect.

> and I know for a fact they have a HIGHER percentage of return
> customers than any other audio company...

Heard that from a Bose family member?

> So what does that tell you?

Nothing. Unless it can be documented and independently verified, it's just
sales hype. There's more of that in this industry than we ned already.

> People come back to Bose because it's a good value and they
> like what they hear.

People who actually compare it to similarly priced stuff from more
responsible manufacturers don't come back to Bose at all.

Robert

Ah, so you clean his pool and empty the septic tank. I see now.
