Hi Everyone,

This TV was outside on the sidewalk and my nephew and I put it in my van.
The owner came out and gave us the remote and said he had replaced two of
the colors a few years ago. He said the reason he was getting rid of it is
because it was out of focus. I haven't turned it on yet because it has been
in my van for a week in freezing temperatures. I had to wait a week for
someone else to remove the TV from my van and carry it up to my apartment
because I severely injured my thigh while putting it into my van. I am going
to physical therapy tomorrow. It has been a very painful week for me.

Would "out of focus" mean there is a convergence problem? I am going to wait
another day, maybe two before I turn it on to make sure it is dry inside. I
have considerable experience in electronics, but haven't worked on a TV
since the eighties and have never worked on a projection TV.

Thanks,

Ken

It's probably both convergence and focus (each of the three CRTs may
need to be focused). And since CRTs have long but limited lifespans,
they may be shot as well.

Google around for service information. Maybe you can even find a
manual.

I hope you didn't hurt yourself for nothing. At most you'll end up
with an aged standard-def analog TV that will need a digital converter
box just to receive OTA signals in 2009.

There are going to be a lot of big, heavy SD TV's sitting on curbs
this next year.
