Hello all,
This is my first post to this group so I will try my best to explain
what I am trying to accomplish. I purchased a package which included
a Samsung HDTV, Samsung Receiver, and a Samsung Blu-Ray DVD player and
I also have a Time Warner (Local Cable Company) HD Cable box. I have
hooked up the Cable Box and DVD player to the TV via HDMI (2 separate
connections) and everything so far is really great. I am making some
assumptions below.
I am now looking to hook-up the receiver and had a few questions on
the best way to do this. My receiver has 2 HDMI ins and 1 HDMI out.
So I was thinking that I could run the Blu-Ray and Cable Box to my
receiver and then the HDMI out to my TV. I know HDMI does video/audio
so I am assuming the receiver acts as switch box and whichever input I
choose will transfer on the video/audio to the TV. Not sure on that.
Would hooking it up this way also give me all the surround sound
capabilities of the reciever? I assume I will always need the
receiver on then if I want to use one of these devices.
The receiver also has digital optical connections as well. In the
store they had HDMI for the video and used the digital optical for the
audio, but I am not sure why.
I guess I am just looking for some thoughts on the best way to hook
this up and get the best sound/video quality. Thanks for your time.
Greg
