Flare in DLP rear projector

Bright areas of the screen have considerable flare on screen (not unlike the
TV having cataracts). It's particularly noticeable when white letters are
on a black background, but all images, HD or otherwise, look soft. I'm not
overdriving the set and the problem can occur with brightness and contrast
dialed to nothing (or any combination in between). Is this common or is
there something in the TV's projection path causing the effect?

I kinda suspect there's dust on a lens causing the problem. Is it possible
to clean the light path or will I just create more problems than I solve?

video level or video beta level too high,
contrast, brightness, sharpness, picture control too high
cable tv signal too strong
dust on lenses or mirrors or screen
could be any but usually video beta level is too high
or picture raster, etc is out of adjustment on PC board.\
signal overload will for sure cause this...
you can clean the lens if wet, don't rub it when dry.
you can get lens cleaner kit at camera store.
