Hi Guys

bit of an ameteur help required here.

My idea is to have a sourround sound system, pc and projector for my
home theatre needs.
I already have a sony sourround system and a 6month old pc with on
board video, its intel DB33BU motherboard, core2 duo processor.
what i need to do is to watch TV and DVD etc on the projector. I am
guessing that it will come through the PC.
I need to know if I can connect the antenna cable directly to a
projector to get the TV going and then use the PC to connect to the
projectors for DVDs.

1. Where would the surround sound go? Projector or PC, if PC what sort
hardware do i need?
2. I am guessing i will need to buy a good graphic card to which the
projector can connect to. what sort of output would i need to look for
to make this happen. I would prefer something with HD on it.
3.Samething what sort of input would i need to look for in the
projector. I am guessing that the sound may connect to the projector
as long as it has coaxil or hdmi output for the sorround sound.

Any suggestions on the hardware brands will be very appreciated.

thanks in advance

If you want real surround sound, you will need a separate processor
which plugs into a hardware slot of your PC, if not there are several
surround systems which plug into the every day audio out that your PC
has already, but this is not true surround sound, although it will
sound
nice in a small area. The digital audio out from your DVD drive will
connect to the separate processor card. You make that connection
inside
the PC case with an aftermarket cable.
you may be able to find a motherboard with real surround processor
on board, but I'm thinking it would not fit your current plans.
The processor mentioned has it's own CPU so your computer will not
become bogged with too much process, which is rather easy to do when
using the PC for entertainment high resolution.
The video card, again in a separate slot on the PC, should have 512 M
processor, DVI dual out (dual out is higher resolution), and or HD out
or even
S video out, this will cable to the Monitor.
the separate video card has on board processor to prevent your PC
from
locking with too much process. I cannot emphasize how much you need
a separate video processor, an on board video process (included w/ PC)
does not have the resolution capability of a separate video card.video
freeze lockup will be a sign that your processor is overloaded.
It would also be helpful if your PC has an AGP (advanced graphics
port)
hardware slot, you should check that, then you can use a AGP video
card.
you can also run minimum 1 GB RAM in your PC or more I hope, and if
you want, windows vista which has more advanced high resolution
graphic capability, although some could not be bothered with the
vista.
and then some of these new 512 video cards will need vista software to
work to an appropriate level.
then there are the combo type cards with video DVI, cable TV tuner,
audio
surround all on one card, HD out, expect to pay at least $500 for a
good one.
However I do not recommend LCD projectors due to the poor picture
quality and high noise level, you are better off with a flatscreen
LCD,
or a real 3 lens CRT projector. Unless you do not care about the
picture
quality, the monitor should be 1080 P, or a PC monitor with at least
1600X 1200 resolution.
Keep in mind finally that the cable between the PC and the monitor
should be as short as possible to maintain highest resolution picture
quality.

That definitely will not work. You'll need a seperate video card with dual
DVI outputs..one for your computer monitor and one for your projector.

If you want to connect cable directly to your PC, you'll then need to
purchase a TV tuner card. You should be able to get both of these for around
$250 and that will get you going on the video side..but until you get those
two items forget about it.

its intel DB33BU motherboard, core2 duo processor.

Projectors don't have tuners built in, so no you can't do that. You'll need
to get that HDTV tuner I mentioned above for your PC..then your projector
will connect via DVI from your dual output card you also bought.

PC. Sounds like you also need a new sound card if you don't already have an
optical digital output.

Yep, dual DVI outs.

Look for DVI or HDMI inputs on the projector. They are interchangeable via
convertors so either one will work. Sound has nothing at all to do with the
projector, it's just a video output device.

here is a 7.1 processor and some HD 512 video cards for your
viewing, you still need to look inside your PC to check what kind
of slots you have and if you have AGP slot, etc...
I would recommend using your AGP if you have one.
you need to check the input type of your projector, etc...
there's several different connectors available...

you should look a a bunch of options first.
